Obituary

New Lexington


Noel Francis Hankinson, age 80, a gentleman's gentleman was called into the presence of the Lord at 7:15 pm Sunday, September 3, 2017, at the FairHope Hospice, Pickering House, Lancaster with his family by his side.

Noel was born November 23, 1936 in New Lexington, to the late William Francis and Lena Josephine (Sweeney) Hankinson. On April 22, 1961 he married the love of his life, Joann Naomi (Boley) Hankinson who preceded him in death on September 2, 2004 after 43 wonderful years of marriage.

Noel was a 1954 graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and a member of the 1954 St. Aloysius State Championship Basketball team. He retired in 1994 from AT&T, (previously Western Electric), in Columbus Ohio after 35 years of service. He was a member of the AFL-CIO Local Union 2020, Elks BPOE # 509, Elks singers, and the Eagles Aeries #2070. Noel had an unwavering love for the Lord, his country, family and friends; always putting others before himself, especially when it came to supporting his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved supporting and campaigning for his wife, who served as Perry County Auditor for 29 years, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan! He was a devoted member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church New Lexington, where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister, and loved to sing in the choir. He proudly served in the Ohio National Guard. Noel was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew, and loved him.

He was blessed with four children who loved him dearly, Michele A. Hankinson of New Lexington, Michael A. and Ann (Sturgill) Hankinson of Crooksville, Joel F. Hankinson of New Lexington, and Denise A. and Robbie Brown of Lima; grandchildren, Alan Michael and Chelsea (Norberg) Hankinson of Lima, Leah Elizabeth (Hankinson) and Dakota Sowers of Blue Rock, Jacob Michael and Brooke (McNulty) Hankinson of Columbus, Adalynn "Addy" Renee Hankinson of Athens, and a great-granddaughter, Briar Augusta Sowers; brother-in-law, Michael L. and Cheryl Boley of New Lexington; close friend, Shirley M. Sturgill of Crooksville; numerous other brother and sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by his in-laws, Joseph and Naomi Boley and a sister, Wilma and Neil Wollenberg.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin 11:00 am Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 309 Main St, New Lexington, OH 43764. Father C.M. Haddad and Father Pete Gideon will officiate the service. Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, September 8, at CHUTE - WILEY FUNERAL HOME, 118 S. Jackson St, New Lexington, OH 43764. An Elks Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 pm, with a Rosary Service at 8:00 pm.
